The Ladies section report on their season so far...

Waterloo Ladies started the season early this year to celebrate what is the 20th Anniversary of the Ladies Section.

On August Bank Holiday Saturday a youthful Waterloo team retained their Northwich 10’s crown which was a fitting start to the 20th Anniversary Dinner held that evening.

The dinner was organised and hosted by Gill Burns and was attended by over 120 former players, coaches, tourists & supporters who had a nostalgic look back over the first 20 years of Waterloo Women’s Rugby.

This successful start to the season off the field has been carried forward to performances on the field with the team having their best start to the league program for years.

Going in to the Christmas break, two thirds way through the season, the team currently lead Championship 1 North (Division 2 in the country behind the Premiership) having played 9 and won 8, their only defeat away to a heavyweight and more experienced Vale of Lune team. The return game is the first after the break on Sunday 10th January, kick off 2pm at Blundellsands- a game not to be missed.

Home wins against Camp Hill (5-0), Olney (36-0), Loughborough (19-5), Lakenham Hewitt (36-0), and Altrincham Kersal (57-5) together with away wins at Altrincham (38-5), Leos (15-14) and Olney (15-0) supplemented with 4 try bonus points have given the Ladies a 1 point lead at the top of the table.

Sixteen different players have scored a total of 34 tries with flying winger Danielle Wiseman scoring 8 including two hat tricks, while Rachael Thomas has a better kicking success rate than the current England Ladies fly half!!!

The Ladies section has been well represented in the Northern Division County Championship with three representing Cheshire and ten representing the reigning County Champions Lancashire!

After Christmas, the girls hope to continue with a successful league campaign, under the continued guidance of Peter Buckton, a number of the squad will be trialling to represent the North West Region and Jenny Davies (Treacle) is in the current Wales squad in training for the 6 Nations Championship.
