Hello again to all mywaterloorugby.com supporters,

Well, if you are reading this it means you are still signed up to mywaterloorugby.com! May I personally thank you and say that I am very pleased to have you back on board, supporting me, mywaterloorugby.com and of course Waterloo FC.

As you look forward to a new season, I would like to ask you a few things of you. This is not coming from anyone else at the club; it’s a personal message from me.
Last year there were a lot of opinions on this forum, often forthright and sometimes downright provocative. I have no problem with people expressing their opinions, but can I ask you this year to make an effort to be as positive as you can! I feel that too many negative threads started last year, especially against players. These are the people that go out every weekend to represent you, so please treat them with the respect they deserve. Before you make any comments on the forum why not ask yourself the following questions –

•  Have I paid my Waterloo FC membership for 2010/11 yet?
•  When is the last time I went down the club for a pint?
•  When is the last time I did something to help the club?
•  How many times did I stay around after a match last year and socialise with the players?
•  When is the last time I said thanks to any of the people that bust their gut to make our club run from day to day?

Wikipedia defines a club as follows: A club is an association of two or more people united by a common interest or goal. We are all united by our desire to see Waterloo flourish both on and off the field. It only takes a small effort by each of us to make a real difference to the club’s future. Please think what you can do to help and then do it! For example, helping with working parties (next one: Sat 31st July and Sun 1st Aug), paying subs on time, bringing a guest to a home game, attending club fundraisers, choosing the club as a function venue, introducing a new child to the mini & junior section – there are so many ways we can all make a difference.

Right, now on to the exciting stuff!

As you may already know, we are well into our pre-season training programme. We are in full flow and the lads have been working very hard indeed. As I promised in an earlier blog, we are working very hard on the physical side in particular. Everyone has been provided with a personalised gym programme and each Tuesday and Thursday we are doing 45 -60 min of pure aerobic fitness.

We have a very clear game plan to make the most of our talents, Gareth Hopin is leading the rugby skills development sessions and we are all settling in well with his unique and highly effective style of coaching.

The squad have also been put through fitness testing over the last week so we can individually assess progress to date and what each player needs to work on more. These results will be up on the club’s notice board soon!

I would also like to welcome all the new players that have already turned up and there are more that will join us later. In particular, we are excited to welcome back Dan Palmer (back row/fitness coach) and Jamie Nixon (utility back) and we welcome Simon Hill (prop - he will be joining us in August). I’m also delighted to report that we are going back to our roots in also welcoming several very good ex-Merchant Taylor’s lads to the squad this year. And on the injury front, the good news is that Martin Bell (back row), Chris Williams (2nd row/back row) and Jonathan Casey (2nd row) are all well on the way back from serious injury. And also on the good news front, Ian Moran (utility back) has returned from Australia to rejoin Waterloo.
And finally, I’ll close this blog with a big shout out to the waterloo legend Nick Gilbo!

Regards

J-Lo
